Wildlife abounds in East Sooke. It's a birdwatcher's paradise, in addition to being home to many types of sea life and mammals.

Many varieties of birds make this area their home. We spotted this little beauty as we were walking through the woods one day. Eagle can frequently be spotted around the cottage. In fact, we have one amazing photo gallery of an eagle flying by (at nearly eye level with the deck!) with his lunch. A pair of swan glide throughout the Sooke Basin These funny little quail are abundant in the area. A family of them often hangs out on the cottage property... you may see them running across the yard with their babies! This photo was taken at dusk. Many times, we've been startled coming upon an owl sitting quietly in a tree. Canada geese like to hang out by the small island across from the cottage. They can frequently be heard calling to one another. Seal are frequently seen in the area, including near the small island by the cottage. Low tide is a great opportunity to look at all the interesting sea life. A variety of fish, crab, and starfish are the most common. A family of otter live nearby. They are very elusive, but some guests have been fortunate to see them. Generally they come out at night... and they are absolutely adorable playing in the water! Turkey vultures can often be seen circling overhead, but it's much less common to see one close up. Heron are frequently seen near the cottage. They sometimes land on the breakwater to fish for their dinner. Their throaty squawks have startled many people! A wild peacock...? Okay, maybe not, but every so often they can be seen wandering around the roads! Deer are pretty much everywhere here. They often travel in pairs or in groups, and are frequently seen along our country roads.

We welcome you to our beautiful Sooke vacation rental cottage!
